Staff

The Director is responsible for the overall planning and organization of the school. Group teachers are certified and experienced in early childhood education. All teachers are selected on the basis of personal qualifications, teaching competence, understanding of children's developmental needs and recognition and respect for the crucial nature of the early school years.

Parent Participation-

A sense of joint responsibility shared by parents and teachers is vital to a successful preschool program. Upon request, the director or group teacher is available to discuss the progress and needs of a child. Formal conferences are scheduled each November and March. Parents are urged to be in close contact with the school. Additionally, all parents are members of the Parents' Association which raises money for the Scholarship and Development Fund and provides special entertainment for children and guest speakers for parents.

Affiliations and Accreditations

Jack & Jill is licensed by the New York City Department of Health. The school is a member of the Independent Schools' Admissions Association (ISAAGNY,) the National Association of Episcopal Schools and the Parents League of New York. We are also a member of the Educational Records Bureau and the standardized testing for on-going independent schools is given on our school premises. Jack & Jill is sponsored by the Parish of Calvary/St. George's Churches.

Facilities

Jack & Jill is located on the first floor of St. George's Parish House on a quiet, tree-lined street. The classrooms are cheerful and well equipped with areas for block construction, dramatic play, musical expressions, artistic explorations, cooking, woodworking, computer work and games. Each room has a quiet area for exploring books and a hands-on area for simple science experiences. The outdoor play yard provides a unique climbing structure and hollow building blocks for large muscle play as well as a sandbox and tricycles. On bad weather days, our fully equipped indoor play space is used.
